ZERO-WASTE SHOPPING:
Here are some ZERO-WASTE shopping tips:
It is possible to reduce your 'shopping footprint,' but it requires
much more organization and preparation than conventional shopping.
(You'll be be surprised to realize how ingrained your shopping habits are.)
Arrive at the store prepared, with the right equipment, and you'll thank
yourself for it when you get home.
1. Use reusable bags for produce and all shopping.
2. Use reusable containers for items that need to be weighed.
3. Use your phone to record container weights.
4. Use a cloth bag for bread and dry bulk items.
5. Use your own bag to carry groceries.
6. Always keep your shopping kit with you.
7. Opt for recyclable packaging.
8. Avoid products with plastic packaging. Go to the counter for items and look for
cardboard packaging in the froozen food section.
9. Shop at stores that support zero-waste practices.
Seek out alternative sources of food, such as CSA
(community-supported agriculture) shares for produce and grains:
Justfood.org (New York City)
Roxburyfarm.com, Lancasterfarmfresh.com.
DROP FAST FASHION:
Buy less and second hand. If you buy new, check the inside label
to avoid buying Polyester which is plastic. Cotton, hemp, natural
materials, rayon and viscose are OK.
OPT OUT OF JUNKMAIL:
You can return the letter in the mailbox labeled refused or incorrect address.
You can also add: « please take me off your list. ».
